This exhibition is a collection of film photography taken by Vincent Morris throughout Japan. These rich colorful festivals are a tradition that have been held in the hearts of the Japanese people from decades past. Most Matsuris are held in early summer or autumn, and are related to the yearly rice harvest. Most are based around the Mikoshi (portable shrine), which is sponsored by a local shrine or temple. It is believed by some that the Mikoshi serves as a vehicle for a divine spirit or Kami. It is often said there are "eight million kami (yaoyorozu)" in Japan. Spiritual camaraderie reflects the unity and strength of those who've come together to celebrate the Matsuri in its richness and beauty.
