The "Contemporary Crafts Exhibition" was a crafts exhibition organized by Atsuo Imaizumi who was then adviser to Shiseido Gallery. Its aim was to "select a chosen few mid-career artists among various areas of Japanese contemporary crafts and exhibit their new works", and it was an epoch-making group show for those days, transcending genre and movements.

Shiseido asked artists to produce work with no conditions about use or form and following the policy of constantly purchasing one among two works on show, formed a collection of 252 pieces. Continuing such cultural support activities through exhibitions for 20 years, 13 among a total of 19 artists participating until the final 20th exhibition in 1995 have been recognized as National Living Treasures.

Among works exhibited in the "Contemporary Crafts Exhibition", this exhibition shows works of 9 artists working with ceramics including the avant-garde ceramics leader Osamu Suzuki (b.1926), Imaemon Imaizumi the 13th, Shoji Kamoda, Uichi Shimizu, Osamu Suzuki, Kouichi Tanaka, Yoshimichi Fujimoto, Kosei Matsui, Kazuo Yagi.

Furthermore, a collaboration between 11 Ikebana artists and ceramic artists will take place each week on a special stage on the first and second floors.

Please refer to the gallery website for details of the Ikebana artists.
