Villages and the people caught up in the tsunami, a military jeep sprinting through desert, pictures of Shanghai on a computer screen, ruins of a crashed light airplane, sceneries of peaceful Chinese gardens and suburbs - one might question whether these images have all been made by the same artist. Luo Xiaodong's paintings depict a wide range of issues from events that are hard to forget to scenes that are somehow nostalgic, reflecting on the current state of society.
