Sachiko Kazama creates woodcut prints that skillfully depict the current state of Japan. "Reversed Landscape" (1999) is a series of prints that are based on advertisements for housing galleries and multi-unit apartments in suburbs. Many middle class families dream of having a house in the suburbs where they could be in a "good" neighborhood. Her prints question this value system that kills the idea of individuality.

Another series included in this exhibition is "Japan Islands Restructuring Theory" (2002). The year 1972, Kazama year of birth, as their starting point, these prints show the light and dark sides of mythological heroes from the age of the economic bubble. At that time there was endless destruction in the name of creation and restructuring in the name of development. Reflecting on such phenomena of Japanese society, the many characters in her work both resemble evil heroes from 70s animation and ironically portray real faces in society.

Kazama gathers information from TV shows and newspapers. From urban development projects to the problems of the pension system, her satirical prints bring up questions that need to be asked.
