Tetsuya Kakuta "First Person Space"
This event has ended.
At NTT ICC Inter Communication Center
Media: Installation, Digital, Performance Art
"Emergencies!" presents works by promising young artists and creators. It aims to introduce experimental expressions that are opening up new possibilities in art & science. Three or four exhibitions are scheduled each year.
Tetsuya Kakuta is a researcher of advanced technology development, as well as an artist who makes works that make humorous criticism of technology. The work on exhibit is a machine that you wear on your head, enabling you to see a virtual space. You can see 360 degrees around by moving your head. There are some junctions in the virtual space which takes you to a new stage, and you determine the direction by the angle of your sight.
Human beings sometimes sense a physically non-existant space because of a slight shift of light. This work explores the possibilities that lie in designing a virtual space. Considering the fact that the space does not adhere to the laws of gravity, the artist focuses on controlling the speed and how the comfort level affects the design. He combines such ideas with techniques used by VJs in the club scene.
