Artists

Yuko Murata
Yuko Murata creates paintings using motifs found in magazines, books, or traveling brochures. Her extremely simplified landscapes depict "nowhere" and feature animals with lovely and yet awkward expressions on their faces. Her ideas come from things that are quite accessible, but details are eliminated so as to create a strange sense of distance between the scenes and the viewers. She creates an original world with her bold brush strokes and faint colors, which undermine any specific decisions she makes when composing the pictures.
