Hara Museum ARC was opened in 1988 as an annex to the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. While the museum in Tokyo is known for its unique architecture in which the museum’s permanent installations are placed in a way that takes advantage of such space, Hara Museum ARC offers a relaxed atmosphere with its large, wooden architecture designed by Arata Isozaki that is set in one corner of the Ikaho Green Bokujo recreational ranch.

Over the years, the Hara Museum has assembled a wide-ranging collection of post-1950 art by artists in Japan and overseas, ranging from established masters to the young generation of artist at the forefront of the art scene today. The current exhibition provides an opportunity to experience the joy of contemporary art through the new artwork recently acquired by the museum, with a focus on works being shown at Hara Museum ARC for the first time.
