Yukarina "Beak and Metronome" + Yumiko Utsu "Namanama"

Guardian Garden
Finished

Artists

Yukarina, Yumiko Utsu
Yukarina and Yumiko Utsu were the respective Grand Prize winners of the 26th "Hitotsubo" Exhibition in the Graphic Arts and Photography categories held last April. Since then the two have spent the past year preparing for these solo exhibitions.

The theme for Yukarina's paintings is "Brittle things that look tough, tough things that look brittle." Materials such as lace that are delicate and strong are drawn in colored pencil with fine detail, and colorful, mysterious animals and flowers and plants create a vivid imagined landscape. The artist's expression was judged by the "Hitotsubo" board to be one that symbolizes the present.

Dates: March 12th-22nd
Opening Party: March 12th, 18:30-20:00

Using the keywords "gross, cute, grotesque" for Yumiko Utsu's takes detailed photographs of her subjects. Showing such images as ants being eaten by toy snakes and Coke gummy candies portrayed as human fetuses, her photographs capture grotesque impulses that cannot but be related to people's dark sides.
