Lewis Yuichi
Making something strange from everyday objects could be my primary concern. That my work should be somehow fascinating, yet ambiguous, is a possible element of the concept of my practice. I believe that intuition may be more important than intellectualization, so the audience is encouraged to enjoy the visual experience rather than dwelling upon its theoretical construct.
My work is assembled through the use of paint. As I used to be a painter, paint is a relatively accessible and familiar medium for me. With its flexibility and utility, paint can be suitable for making something a little unusual. Moreover, mixing paints according to the colour of the object I use, is in many ways similar to the conceived notion of painting.
Whether art has meaning or not is not truly my concern but nothing exists without relating to something else. We automatically seek a handle to hold when the ground we stand on seems unstable, but we are often unsure about what this handle is attached to. The interpretation of my work is amenable to multiple perspectives. However, it is crucial that my practice cannot be fully read in just one context.
