Joel Spiewak
This exhibition, Spiewak's first in Tokyo, is a travelling exhibition that started at Gallery Trax in Yamanashi in April this year, showcasing the work of this 55 year old French photographer who lives and works in San Francisco.

Spiewak has been deeply influenced by the stories he has heard from his father, who is a Holocaust survivor, as well as his memories of seeing photos of Hiroshima following the dropping of the atomic bomb. With that kind of conceptual background, he takes powerful photographs that depict people's shadows.

This exhibition presents nine digital prints, seven of which were taken in a small ghost town in Nebraska, America. Spiewak says that through his photography he remembers the photographs of Hiroshima. His work, which takes the overfamiliar aspects of the everyday and renders them into "fossils of light" draw the viewer into his mysterious world.
