Artists

Ayaka Sugiyama
This is an installation using books. This artist uses actual books and takes actions such as rubbing parts off while reading the text or illuminating and hiding sentences traced in red and orange ink with similar color light to create a dramatic effect. Using letters, words and books as the motif, she expresses human existence, time and space, saying that people use the book and letter formats to enjoy the time and sensation of reading silently, without one's actual voice.

In the work "Hitobito (people)," every character is erased from one book except the character "hito (person, man)." The bits of paper shaved off from the book are piled around it, expressing the weight of time and drama and leaving the "person" standing alone in the wilderness.
