Sachiyo Tsurumi
Tsurumi was born in Ibaraki, Japan in 1978. After she received her MA at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts in 2003, Tsurumi has been working hard and having exhibitions. She had her solo show at INAX gallery (Tokyo) in 2004 and was awarded at “New Open Call Exhibition” at Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art and the “Gunma Biennial” at The Museum of Modern Art, Gunma. In 2006, she exhibited at the group show entitled “Worm Hole episode 2” at Magical. Later, she was selected to be in the rising artist training program of Agency for Cultural Affairs for 10 months. This exhibition consists of works have been created during the last 10 months.

Tsurumi creates works combining photography and drawing. She places her drawings, which are based on her dreams and memories, onto the cropped images of reality that are photographs. The resulting images show a new stage of reality. She sees significance in dreams and memories in order to truly see the real. Her vision of reality has inspired the musician and artist David Sylvian, and they collaborated on Sylvian’s project at Naoshima, as well as on his latest album cover.
