Jotaro Saito
The theme of Jotaro Saito's 2007/2008 collection is "Hyaku-Nezumi", 100 gray shades. During the Edo period, regular citizens were forbidden from dressing up in colorful clothes, so they developed their original style in plain colors. Various shades of browns and grays were coordinated and mixed. "Shijaku-hatcha, hyaku-nezumi" is an idiom that came from this Edo culture, meaning 48 shades of brown and 100 gray shades. Saito incorporates this concept into his neo-classical design.
