Artists

Masamitsu Katsu
This artist who was born in 1981 has been participating in various art competitions since graduating from Musashino Art University in 2005. He has already won many awards and been introduced in magazines.

This artist's works are characterized by clear, unforgettably powerful concepts. Although his works range from paintings to video to installations, this exhibition will show a pencil drawing series for which he is also known. His work that won third place in the "GEISAI 10" competition has received particular attention and also received the Kashiwa Sato and Dentsu awards. The entire 1600 x 7800mm surface is colored black with a pencil and is entitled "What is a Pencil?" Over 7m of shiny lead-like black is awe-inspiring and exhilarating for its energy and at the same time humorous when one thinks of the senseless sublimation of enormous energy. His work that won a Tokyo Wonder Wall award depicted Tokyo cityscapes until the artist turned the surface completely black. Entitled "I don't like Tokyo. But I live in Tokyo," it expressed the ambivalence between the image of the color black and the deliberately layered drawings. His simple "pencil drawings" are based on different concepts that are at times baffling to the viewer, and watching him take on these various concepts one after the other is delightfully powerful.

This will be his first solo exhibition.
