"Art Noveau in Bloom - Glassware and Fashion" Exhibition

Pola Museum Annex
Finished
Between 1890 and 1900, the refined curves and patterns of Art Nouveau were all the rage in Europe and spread throughout the world. Design motifs featuring flowers and plants could be said to represent the Art Nouveau movement. In the era that was called "Belle Epoque" in France, means of production advanced while people's standard of living also improved. New electric light fixtures by Émile Gallé and the Daum brothers one hundred years ago, seemed to indicate the coming of a beautiful new age.

There were also changes regarding women in this era. For the first time, cosmetics were seen in a positive light, and many manuals regarding the use of cosmetics were published. Many related items for women in Art Nouveau styles became popular, such as glass sinks with flower design motifs. Art Nouveau also changed hairstyles, with more natural styles coming into vogue. Art Nouveau emanated from Europe, and influenced the design of cosmetics packaging, clothing, hairstyles and much more. During the Paris Exposition in 1900, many Japanese artists went to France, where they learned about Art Nouveau, and they brought this style back to Japan, where it became very popular.

This Exhibition introduces approximately 70 pieces of Art Nouveau glassware, both from France and Japan.

The first 50 visitors will receive a sample bottle of Eau de Fleur fragrant body shampoo.
