Geographer Augustin Berque analyzed the symbolic elements in a variety of environments in Japan, and conceptualized the dynamic circumstances of life as being "trajective". "Trajectivity" is a feeling and a technique composed of the dualities of nature and culture, subjectivity and objectivity, individuality and collectivity, and saying that its is deeply embedded in human sensations and technology, aesthetics and ethics, and ecological ideology, Berque argued that is the methodology we need in today's globalized society. Reflecting on the concept of trajectivity, the Earthwork International Forum discusses possibilities in art in relation to space and the environment.
