Henri Michaux "Emerging Figures"
This event has ended.
At The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Media: Painting
Henri Michaux is a Belgian painter as well as a poet who worked in France. For about a half century since the 1930s he created peculiar drawings with his signature abstract marks that are neither symbols or animals. In his search for the origin of imagination, he also experimented with drugs such as mescaline, a hallucinogenic taken from cactus. He made extremely bizarre achievements as an artist and became one of the most influential figures in the art scene.
Michaux's works are always filled with the movement of flowing energy, and human figures often appear. This exhibition focuses on these repeatedly featured figures as an entrance point to explore his world.

シンボリカル(象徴的)な要素とアレゴリカル(比喩的)な要素が分かちがたく混在しているように思え、その意味では向き合うのに少々しんどい作品だったように思える。
