The collection at Takasaki Museum of Art includes nationally and internationally renowned artworks. Among the collection, masterpieces from the 20th century including some by Picasso are on display.

Born in Malaga, Spain, Picasso visited Paris for the first time in 1900. He divided his time between Spain and Paris, but eventually settled in Spain. In the early 20th century, as the capital of the art world, Paris was crowded with youngsters from all over the world experimenting with new forms of art. There, Picasso begun a friendship with poet Apollinaire and many others. A few years later, Chagall also joined the Paris art community, creating numerous works.

This exhibition includes Picasso's "Poor Meal" from his "blue period", his linocut "Portrait of Jacqueline with Necklace", and much more, with 140 works in total. Through this display of masterpieces, viewers can see his golden period, as well as understand the individual struggles and joys of the artists of that period.
