Iwami Furusawa
Artist Iwami Furusawa (1912-2000) was a member of the pre-war artists' community Ikebukuro Montparnasse and explored new forms of expression such as surrealism. After the war, he had an atelier in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo and painted a unique world with lines and color usage that seemed to dance. This museum has continued to introduce the artist's work as an artist living in the ward.
This exhibition comprises 108 works (approximately 300 items) that were donated to the museum by the artist's family in 2005. They contain several letters with sketches that the artist wrote to family members and friends during the war and give valuable insight into the artist's emotional state at the time. Oil paintings, dessin, unpublicized works and newspaper illustrations will also be on display as the artist's wide-ranging works are reviewed under the themes "line" and "color."
