Takeshi Masada
Wako Works of Art presents the long-awaited first solo exhibition of new works by Takeshi Masada. First exhibited in a group show at Wako Works of Art in 2004, this will be the artist's first solo exhibition at the gallery.

Born 1977 in Osaka, Takeshi Masada graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts with an MA in Fine Art in 2003. Masada was one of the artists selected for the first installment of Wako Works of Art's "from/to" program; the artist has since received attention through participation in other group shows and various forms of media coverage.

In the past, Masada worked with a stain technique using acrylic on cotton sheets, later followed by a series called "Smooth Painting" using vinyl sheets. Today, he paints predominantly in oil on canvas. His subjects, ranging from everyday objects to movie stills to tribal themes, are seemingly random, but have been deliberated. With his distinctive use of bold brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and meticulously thought out selection of eclectic subjects, Masada elaborates on his personal relationship with the act of painting.

This exhibition will feature the artist's new oil paintings and watercolor drawings.
