"Springtime of the Russian Avant-Garde: From Chagall to Malevich" Exhibition

Bunkamura Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Natalia Goncharova, Niko Pirosmani, Kazimir Malevich, Marc Chagall et al.
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art opened in 1999 and owns an extensive collection of works by the leading painters of the Russian avant-garde which flourished in the first decades of the 20th century. This selection of paintings by Natalia Goncharova, Niko Pirosmani, Kazimir Malevich and Marc Chagall during his Russian period demonstrates how these artists, without rejecting European influences, successfully developed a unique style of contemporary painting that would affect art movements internationally over the remainder of the 20th century. This is the first time that artworks from the Moscow Museum of Modern Art are on exhibition in Japan.
