Tsutomu Yamamoto
Tsutomu Yamamoto is an artist who visualizes various optical phenomena in a lyrical manner, using the simple yet unique method of letting light filter through and permeate acrylic.
Our typical experience of seeing in everyday life consists in visual changes that come about through variations in light. Yamamoto captures the sight of sunset at dusk, fleeting landscapes seen from car windows that disappear in a flash, dappled sunlight through foliage, mirages, the surface of water, etc, conceiving his work in response to these dramatic phenomena, layering associated images over them.
After graduating from the Kyoto University of Art and Design, Yamamoto moved to pursue graduate studies at the Tokyo University of the Arts and now continues to make his trademark work. His inimitable style seems to be born out of a conscientious stance not to use TV or VTR.
His works have come to assume the form of a monumental documentary video that renders ambiguous the borders between reality and fiction, making us reaware of the rich imaginary capacities of our memory. This exhibition entitled "Inter Being" showcases 4 works including new pieces involving aerial shots.
