Toshiyuki Konishi
This exhibition of works by Toshiyuki Konishi is part of the New Artists Picks (NAP) series featuring up-and-coming young artists selected by the Yokohama Museum of Art which started last year.

Toshiyuki Konishi was born in Hiroshima in 1980. After graduating from Musashino Art University, he has based himself in Yokohama where he lives and works. Konishi paints mostly human subjects in deep colors that seem to quiver on the canvas. His figures have a quiet presence; they seem to stare straight ahead at the viewer. Konishi's work is an examination of the essence of what it is to be human. The gazes of the human figures that occupy the center of his paintings are perhaps a manifestation of Konishi's own observant look trained at those around him.

This exhibition turns the museum's cafe space into a sort of theater where 32 of Konishi's paintings and drawings are on display.
