Shimon Yotsuya "Puppets and Dessins"

Gallery Mestalla
Finished

Artists

Shimon Yotsuya
Shimon Yotsuya started making puppets at the age of 10, and when he was in his late teens, he began learning from doll-making artists Toshiro Hayashi and Toshimi Sakauchi. He also visited a puppet maker Puppe Kawasaki, and through this encounter he made a resolution to himself that he would become a life-long puppet maker.
Aside from his puppet making, Yotsuya also has worked on drawings. This exhibition presents about 20 pastel and pencil drawings as well as two of his dolls. Creating contrast to his tranquil and yet somewhat erotic dolls, the drawings are very delicately and lightly handled. This exhibition brings together the contrasting characters, the lightness and boldness given birth by Yotsuya.
