Artist Reception & FLO Union

Pink Cow
Finished
August Artist: Ben Dixon
Born 1968, England. "I'm from London, and I now live in Ho Chi Minh City, but I consider Asia to be my home. I have taken my fair share of the generic picture postcard scenes, the kind that run amok in HCMC, and have enjoyed them, but in recent years I have had a strong desire to present something a bit more challenging. Recently some the images have been taken on a cumbersome and weighty medium format panoramic camera, the Noblex 150. In an age where digital photography is the usual medium, I still enjoy using film. The ritual of loading the camera, measuring the light, winding the film on and the unknown factor of what I have captured is all part of this exciting process.

The panoramic image enables me to take in a very wide angle and I like the slightly distorted, bowed view it provides in much closer scenarios. My real interest is capturing scenes involving everyday subjects that we often drive or walk past without giving them much thought; the walls with the stenciled telephone numbers, the old and flaky painted houses, the rubbish on the street. Most of my images also involve some central movement against a static backdrop, which also provides a new perspective on the scene.

I hope you enjoy the photos as a backdrop to the wonderful Pink Cow".
