Asa Go
Asa Go was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1978 and currently resides in Tokyo. "The Self and the Other" is the main theme of her work. Using warm and soft colors, she often depicts a girl as the reflection of herself, and rabbits as the "Others." She explores questions surrounding identity in her painting, asking what the self means, and how it relates to the other. Some of her work provokes a helpless sense of uncertainty, or a sense of isolation; and yet it communicates honest and pure feelings which we are all familiar with.
Go has recently focused on deepening her exploration of the relationship between the Self and the Other, focusing on aspects of how these two notions come together and are differentiated from each other. Through this residency, she aims to share her imagination and fantasy with others. Her paintings and sculptures will be on view at the studio space in the museum,. She will hold a "house party" at the workshop where participants can create their own imaginary creatures.
