Osamu Tezuka has had an unmeasurable influence on Japanese culture. This year marks the 80th anniversary of his birth, in commemoration of which the one- to two-year 80th Anniversary of Osamu Tezuka's Birth Project is being held, neatly sandwiching his birthday on November 3rd.

The main event of this program is the Tezuka Gene: Light in the Darkness" exhibition being held at Shibuya Parco Factory, itself celebrating its first anniversary. Looking at the many facets of Tezuka's diverse body of work - character design, storytelling, worldview, mode of expression - as well as the sense of light and darkness that pervades each of these elements, giving visitors an understanding of how over 30 artists and art collectives like Enlightenment, Tomato, Katsuki Tanaka and Risa Fukui have revived the spirit and "gene" of Tezuka's art.
