Following Aya Saito's "Mayuko Mayuko Mayuko" exhibition held in July, this exhibition is part of a program for introducing the work of young artists selected by the gallery. This time, the work of three promising young photographers is on display.
Anat Parnass was born in Israel, and currently studies photography at a Tokyo university while making work. Parnass became attracted to unique hues that cannot be captured using a single-lens reflex camera, and so started taking photos using her cellphone camera. Her extensive body of work, which accumulates over time like diary entries, steadily reflects the realities of her everyday life.
Kanako Ikeda has made repeated trips to Russia since her student days, interacting with the locals. Ikeda captures the lives of these steadfast people with a perspective that avoids the typical image of Russia as a dark, cold place, sometimes even conveying a certain nostalgia or longing in these frank depictions of daily life in its inhabitants.
While Miu Kiuchi uses a digital camera, she nonetheless manages to capture in her photos the surface qualities and textures of her subjects. Her images of the surfaces of banal, familiar walls and trash boxes have a painterly quality to them, looking as if we have been thrust up directly against the textures of these things.
