Andrew Wyeth "Emotion and Creation"

Bunkamura Museum of Art

Artists

Andrew Wyeth
With his images of archetypal American landscapes, Andrew Wyeth (b. 1917) is probably the greatest representative of American Realism. He started as a watercolorist, and his "drybrush" works possess a palpability that matches the effects created by tempera in every respect. This exhibition introduces drawings and watercolors that paved the way for Wyeth's tempera and drybrush works and puts particular emphasis on the creative process that took place in his imagination.
The works on display number about 150 and consist of images of Wyeth's hometown of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and those around his cottage in Maine. Together they offer a comprehensive introduction to his work and the processes that led to their creation.
