The brand name KYO-TO-TO fuses the names Kyoto and Tokyo, the traditional and contemporary centres of Japan. KYO-TO-TO products are a collaboration of graphics by 3MIN. GRAPHIC ASSOCIATES, based in Tokyo, and traditional embroidery by the DUOMO workshop in Kyoto.
Launched in autumn, 2007, their first collection was of tenugui based on the 4 seasons in Japan. The tenugui show graphics printed using the Yuzen dying process on top of which onomatopoeic Chinese characters, representing the sounds of the creatures most characteristic of each season, are embroidered. At SFT Kyo-to-to will introduce three new designs for the summer and new items made with their fabrics. The usual length of a tenugui is 90cm or 1 unit, so their new accessories are made using parts or multiples of this, for example, a Yukata is 14 units, a bag, 2 units, a candy bag one fifth a unit etc. The Kyo-to-to display will be in the style of a Japanese summer festival.
