Itaru Ogawa
Itaru Ogawa was born in 1969 and graduated from the Royal Art Academy of Antwerp, Belgium in 1997. Since then, he has produced many impressionistic paintings in vivid colors in the 10 years since returning to Japan. The world depicted in his paintings is difficult to qualify as being either figurative or abstract - only the surface of these figure- or object-like things seem to exist for real, while their contents comes across as ethereal, floating and airy. These lonesome shapes seem to be some sort of self-portraiture for a contemporary generation whose ties to the world have been weakened or even completely severed.
This is Ogawa's first real solo exhibition in Tokyo.
