Foro08 Talk Salon No.12 Keiko Okada x Naomi Ikoma "Craft of Conversation with Nature, Mami Flower Design and the World of Keiko Okada"
This event has ended.
Mami Flower Design is a school and studio started by a pioneer of the Japanese flower design scene, Mami Kawasaki. Currently the school is led by flower artist Keita Kawasaki, producing bold and cutting-edge flower designs, gaining acclaim in the window display industry.
Their design is conceptual and also experimental, sharing the same territory addressed in contemporary art. Their works include graphic pieces created through the analyzation of flower elements by color, shape, line and so on, and installation series which has illusionary-picture-like visual effects, and "hana-kubari", their original, new form of flower arrangement which doesn't involve kenzan (the spiky metal base used in Japanese flower arrangement) or floral foam but instead uses the flower or plant itself for composition.
This talk event features one of the leaders of Mami Flower, Keiko Okada, who published a book from the publisher Hachette Fujingaho in June. She will talk about the creations of Mami Flower as well as her own works. She will also give a demonstration of "hana-kubari".
