Artists

Yasuko Iba
Iba uses oils and pastels to draw fruits, desserts, furniture, linen and other extremely familiar materials with the aid of photographs and magazine centerfolds. Photorealism is only one element in her work, however; she also depicts the expressions and contours of her subjects, teasing out their "insides", a technique and approach that has won her much acclaim. Viewers of her work gradually become attuned to the space of her materials, the wavering of the colors they are rendered in, their inner glow, as if they were the first overtures to getting lost in this confused jumble of ostensibly familiar motifs.
In addition, a collection of Iba's principle works will soon be released on Gram Books. For this reason, this exhibition will not include a catalog.
