Tokyo National Museum
Finished
We are pleased to present this exhibition of excellent Chinese calligraphy and paintings from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties, focusing on works from the Song and Yuan periods. The exhibition is split into two displays, the first featuring early-period works (Nov 5th-Nov 30th) and the second featuring late-period works (Dec 2nd-Dec 25th.)

Artists featured in the early period display include the early Ming literati painter Wang Fu (1362-1416), the flower-and-bird painter Lu Ji from the Ming court academy, Zhang Lu, a representative artist of the Zhe school, as well as Liu Jun and Zhu Duan.

The second period highlights two Ming dynasty hanging scrolls depicting a landscape in the "Mi style", which were created by the Northern Song painter Mi Fu. Notable Ming dynasty artists include Lu Wenying, the court academy painter and Yang Wencong, a government official and literati painter from the late Ming dynasty who died in a battle against the Qing army. Artists featured from the Qing dynasty include Gong Xian of the Jinling school, Wang Hui, said to have belonged to the Orthodox school, as well as several other literati and genre paintings.
