Yuya Wada
Yuya Wada received the Grand Prix at the 29th Photography "Hitotsubo" (open call) exhibition held from August through September last year. This solo exhibition features work produced in the year since then.

Wada won the Grand Prix for his unique exhibit where visitors were free to take home postcard-sized photographs of night scenes mounted on black acrylic racks. These images were shot in dark night time conditions with strobe light flashes. The parts of the subject lit up by the fierce strobe lights seem to float up in a white space, radiating a warm glow. This result is further enhanced by the light picked up and reflected by any rain and water surfaces in the background, producing additional, uncontrollable effects owing to water movements and reflections of light - all captured in large quantities by Wada's digital camera. In a sense, Wada's images cause a strange, unknown world to come into being, one that has been surrendered to contingency, transcending the viewer's preconceptions.
