Artists

Tadanori Yokoo
This artist has been a pioneer in a variety of fields such as performance art, film and music since making his debut as a graphic designer in the beginning of the 1960s. In 1981 he announced that he was going to be a painter and has been creating rich works in his unique style every since. He portrays his personal tastes and interests in ways that are at times satirical and suggestive. His vivid works have an appeal that translates to the populace at large, but are also visionary.
Fifteen works from his "Onsen (hot springs)" series are on display at this exhibition. This series of paintings draws on inspiration from the artist's travels to hot spring resort towns all over Japan. His paintings have been serialized in the free paper "5l" along with his essays. The nostalgic atmosphere of these traditional Japanese hot spring towns has been mixed with and transformed by the artist's visions, memories and experiences in this series.
