Masuo Ikeda "Unknown Full Picture"
This event has ended.
Masuo Ikeda is a multitalented artist: painter, sculptor, Akutagawa prizewinning author, essayist, scriptwriter, film director, TV talent and much more. He was the first Japanese artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He also won the grand prize at the Venice Biennale for his internationally active work as a printmaker. Always at the forefront of artistic trends of the era, he immersed himself in ceramics in 1983, and has since produced work, even prints, with a close relation to Japanese classics such as the Rin school, in works like the representative series "Heart Sutra".
This exhibition showcases 210 of Ikeda's representative works, from his early period to his later years, including previously unexhibited work and newly discovered pieces alike that trace his relationship to ceramics and the possible significance of its return to Japan.
Several related events will also be held. Please see the website for details.
