Hokusai Katsushika et al.
Hokusai Katsushika is known around the world as a great master of ukiyo-e. Who were the successors to his "DNA", though?

Although Hokusai had two sons, they did not carry on the legacy of his art. Perhaps the answer can be found with his daughters, who left behind some of their own paintings. In addition to these, there are over 80 known students and followers of Hokusai, but who among these can be said to be proper successors to Hokusai's style? Originally, because of the domineering fame of Hokusai himself, there was practically no attention paid to the work of his students.

This exhibition puts the spotlight on these students in an attempt to seek out Hokusai's artistic DNA. The finest qualities of his followers can be seen not in the prints, but rather in the brushstrokes and actual painting. On display are works by 28 such students, exhibited alongside famous works by Hokusai (including two national treasures).
