Artists

Isamu Wakabayashi
The outdoor sculpture "Valleys (2nd Stage)," by Isamu Wakabayashi, was completed in 1989 and installed in 2006 in the garden of the Yokosuka Museum of Art. Wakabayashi and the museum started planning the installation of the piece in 1993, but sadly, he past away in October of that year. The installation was completed by his family and staff in 2006.
"Valleys" consists of two parallel valleys, one with burned iron plates and the other with a rusty surface. The piece is installed as one continuous line at Yokosuka Museum of Art and the surface treated with protective molten zinc, allowing viewers to walk through it.
This retrospective exhibition presents about 30 sculptures and 120 drawings and prints, unraveling Wakabayashi's entire career as an artist.
