Yoshimitsu Nagasaka
G/P Galley presents "Sacred Nature, From Koyasan", a solo exhibition of photographer Yoshimitsu Nagasaka who was born in Koyasan, a sacred mountain area of Japan. To coincide with this exhibition, the gallery is also releasing Nagasaka's photo book, published by the established publisher Mitsumura Suiko Shoin. In the past, Nagasaka created a wonderful series of photographs that depicted the practices of esoteric religions and mountain worshippers. The works in this exhibition attempt to reveal the relationships between animistic beliefs and the nature of Koyasan. In fact, this is a challenge to how photography itself can manifest sacred power. G/P Gallery hopes to introduce Nagasaka's work in the context of contemporary art, addressing the possibilities of this medium and reconsidering its association with documentation and exoticism. In this series, Nagasaka used acrylic mounts for the first time.
G/P gallery is also presenting Nagasaka's work at the international art fair photoMIAM in December.
