Tomoko Sengoku "Contact #2"
This event has ended.
At Zenshi
Media: Sculpture, Art Party
This is Tomoko Sengoku's first solo exhibition in 2 years.
While Sengoku presented her photography work in her previous exhibition "Touch of Sight", this exhibition entitled "Contact #2" mainly showcases her 3D work.
Pieces of ceramic with a convex/concave surface have been embedded in walls, while others are suspended from the ceiling of the exhibition space, giving them the appearance of clusters of water molecules. At first glance, the forms of these black and white objects are hard to grasp, but a closer look reveals a clearer sense of their form and presence. Sengoku's ceramic works and photographs are alike in how they both give expression to the faint whisperings of life processes. She also manages to create a space within which a delicate tension is maintained, as well as to create a sort of nihilistic sensation by using fragile ceramics as a material, and hollowing out its interior.
Please enjoy this solo exhibition by Sengoku, who will soon leave to study abroad in Paris for 2 years.
