Nana Funo + Yutaka Watanabe Exhibition

Tomio Koyama Gallery Roppongi
Finished

Artists

Nana Funo, Yutaka Watanabe
Nana Funo creates her painting by depicting sentimental mofits in subdued tones. In one of her series, Funo applies layers of dye, gesso and acrylic paint in matiere style to portray lacy crochet patterns and vegetal motifs on a canvas reminiscent of a round embroidery frame. In her "Travel Series", she draws symbolic buildings and landscapes of various countries in relief-like texture.

Yutaka Watanabe composes his landscape painting in bizarre setting in which indoor and outdoor blend with each other. In his "Ark" series, bent-over plant and furniture interdiffuse, while wordless conversation keeps taking place against the backdrop with a stage set-like house image or inside of the house. The combination of his use of unique colors and motifs is reminiscent of Futurist painting.
