31 galleries specializing in contemporary art will be taking part in the A@A Art@Agnes Art Fair 2009 held at the luxury Agnes Hotel and Apartments Tokyo in Kagurazaka.
This year, the organizers once again hope to provide a high quality art fair that resists being swayed by the ephemeral trends of the recent art boom. The exhibiting galleries have been chosen through a highly selective process by the committee, creating an art fair that focuses solely on contemporary art of the very highest quality, with works that cannot be found elsewhere at other art fairs.
As has been done in past years, large-scale works that do not fit in the hotel rooms will be exhibited in the basement hall and entrance area, “Art@Basement”.
The first art fair of its kind in Japan to be held in a hotel, Art@Agnes celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2009. However, this year also marks its final year, as Art@Agnes feels that it has been successful at fulfilling its role of establishing a new movement in Japan with its hosting of an art fair at a hotel.
From 2010 onwards, Art@Agnes will continue to exist as an organization but hopes to develop new ways to support the ever-expanding and vibrant Japanese art scene.
