Kazuyoshi Mikoshi
Kazuyoshi Mikoshi is a photographer who has shot scenes of Tahiti, the Maldives, the Sahara desert, the Himalayas, and the North Pole, a lifelong vocation that began ever since his first visit to Okinawa when he was 13. He had his first solo show while still a high school student, and was awarded the Ihe Kimura Prize for photography for his photo collection "Paradise", the youngest ever recipient of the award.
This exhibition showcases Mikoshi's stunning landscape shots of Morocco, situated in the northwest corner of Africa, adjoining both an inland sea and the ocean to the north. In the center of the country runs the Atlas mountain range. Rolling plains lie in the western part of the country, and arid desert can be found in the southeast. Also known as "Country of the West," or "Country of the Setting Sun," Morocco is a faraway land from the perspective of Japan and the Far East. Filled with historical cities and labyrinthine streets, Morocco is a land of warm and spirited people.
"Moroccans have this unbelievable sense of power and strength about them. When I tried to film these Arabic people with their enigmatic smiles, meeting their gaze, I felt as if my heart had been drawn in and captured," says Mikoshi.
