Yasushi Matsumoto "Neutral Scapes"

Ginza Nikon Salon (Nikon Plaza)
Finished

Artists

Yasushi Matsumoto
This exhibition documents Matsumoto's personal responses to certain places. These places are ones that seem to have a particular sense of openness to the world, through which air flows freely, without a nagging sense of stagnation. In simple terms, this includes places like broad traffic intersections and roads, parking lots and the open areas found near graveyards, as well as objects standing straight and upright, like tall buildings and electric poles that appear to mask some hidden importance.
These "neutral scapes" can be glimpsed in these 45 digital monochrome prints with a certain sombre air about them, but there is something of a wistful humor about them as well. The photos were taken with a digital single-lens reflex camera, and printed with a inkjet printer.
