"Homage to Cézanne: His Influence on the Development of Twentieth Century Painting" Exhibition

Yokohama Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Paul Cézanne et al.
The works of Paul Cézanne played an enormous role in the development of movements in painting beginning from the early twentieth century.
“Cézannism” influenced such diverse movements as the Cubism of Pablo Picasso, the Fauvism of Henri Matisse and the Western-styled works of Japanese modern paintings by Ryusei Kishida and Sotaro Yasui, etc.
This show demonstrates the wide-ranging impact of Cézanne by showing his works side by side with the art of subsequent movements and artists in Europe, and Japan, allowing for close and vivid comparison and appreciation.
