Finished
In celebration of UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage which falls on October 27th, the National Film Center presents "Shinpan O-oka Seidan: A Reconstruction Attempt of the Lost Masterpiece with Stills, Benshi and Piano Performance".

"Shinpan O-oka Seidan" (1928) featuring Denjirou Ookouchi, directed by Daisuke Ito and filmed by Hiromitsu Karasawa, is known as the masterpiece of Japanese silent film, and yet the film is lost and we can no longer see it.

This one-day event, made possible by the support of Lost Film Project, attempts to reproduce the film using remaining still images of "Shinpan O-oka Seidan" from the collection of film critic Sho Kajita. Narration by Midori Sawato and piano by Mie Yanashita will accompany the slide projection. A lecture by Sho Kajita will be also held.
