Keiichi Sumi
This is Keiichi Sumi's first exhibition, held at the Claska's Gallery and Shop Do. Sumi used to run a small shop in Ikejiri Ohashi, establishing a unique style with its offerings that attracted creatives working in art, design, and fashion from all over the city. The shop dealt in second-hand chairs and lighting fixtures by foreign designers, reconstructed tools made from broken objects that were like Arte Povera and avant-garde pieces, or Bauhaus cutlery washed up on the shores of Tokyo Bay... Several years later, after shifting his base of operations, Sumi published "1x1=2; Two People's Work" along with his partner Yumiko Matsuzawa and the supervision of graphic designer Nobuhiro Yamaguchi. The book contained ideas and viewpoints on design from all over the world. The objects and spaces that Sumi comes up with continue to captivate creative people even today.

This exhibition features Sumi's faceless "Pigeon Clock", "20-faced Light", "Vacuum Cleaner Accordion", "Small Antique Desk", "Long Table with Tap", "Saddle Pillow" and many other pieces put together from old tools and other scrap materials, creating hypothetical home settings in the gallery space. Transcending the realm of mere objects, Sumi shows us how they can be transformed into artistic compositions.
