Artists

Tamami Hitsuda
Tamami Hitsuda is an artist who creates images of imaginary places by combining various images. In a series entitled "Fibbing", a huge scarlet curtain is hung from cloudless sky, allowing viewers to catch only a glimpse of an endless sky and horizon, as if to steal a peak at a theater stage whose drop curtain is about to be drawn.
Hitsuda first takes her photos, and then downloads these images onto a computer, printing them again onto developing paper. She has been working with this digital photo method since 1997 because of how it enables her to generate universal pictures in which imaginary light, darkness, flowers and springs reside in harmony in a transparent atmosphere of their own.
In this exhibition entitled "The Garden", Hitsuda features sacred animals, flowers that never wilt and a water fountain as a symbol of cornucopia in her utopian landscapes, where the sacred and secular mingle with each other.
