Kijo Rokkaku
Kijo Rokkaku is an architect who has been giving expression to his own artistic ideas since the late 1960s. His concept of "Jikiruhaido" architecture is defined as "a future shift that takes into account what one has pursued up until now." Rokkaku continues to pursue an ideal vision of architecture that incorporates the climate, history, body and consciousness of society and the people drawn together by it.
In addition, Rokkaku has in recent years devoted himself to the instruction of students in the area of architectural education, getting involved in the creation of educational environments at Tokyo University of the Arts as head of the art department, seeking to improve the institution's ties to its surrounding community and society at large.
This exhibition is the first integrated retrospective look at the wide spectrum of Rokkaku's work in architectural design, environmental design, urban planning, education, writing and more in an attempt to uncover the roots of his creativity.
